Story: Bare Rooted Roses
Episode: 12
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Air Date: 23th May 2024

Trevor’s got his hands on some bare rooted roses, and shows us how to care for them whilst they’re dormant.

  • Scotts Osmocote Rose, Gardenia & Azalea Premium Potting Mix, developed with over 50 years of horticultural expertise using sustainable materials and the right blend of balanced nutrients.
  • This premium potting mix provides the ideal acidic pH level, boosted iron, and magnesium for lush, green leaves, preventing yellowing and premature flower bud drop, and promoting strong root development and continuous feeding for up to 6 months.
  • When planting bare-rooted roses, choose a sunny, well-drained location and soak the roots in water before planting to rehydrate them.
  • Dig a wide and deep hole, ensuring the graft union sits just above the soil level, and add a handful of Scotts Osmocote potting mix to the bottom of the hole.
  • Position the rose in the hole, spread the roots evenly, and backfill with potting mix, gently firming it around the roots.
  • Water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets and mulch around the base of the plant to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
  • In Spring, boost your roses with Scotts Osmocote Rose, Gardenia & Azalea Controlled Release Fertiliser, formulated with the correct NPK ratio for foliage, root, and flower growth, boosted iron, and essential micro-nutrients for vibrant blooms and healthy plants.
