Tough seasons can stress citrus trees, but with proper sucker removal, deep watering using a soil wetter like Seasol, and timely feeding, you can restore health and boost fruiting for the long haul.

  • Suckers sprouting from the base of your citrus tree usually mean the grafted top is stressed — common in extreme weather years. If not removed, suckers will overtake the desired variety.
  • Most citrus trees are grafted onto vigorous rootstock; when the top struggles, the rootstock fights back. Stress often stems from inconsistent or dry subsurface moisture.
  • Use a Seasol Soil Wetter & Tonic combo to rehydrate dry soil pockets and stimulate root recovery. It's crucial to drench the soil thoroughly — watch for frothing as a sign it’s working.
  • Avoid applying fertiliser for at least 4 weeks post-treatment. Once roots have recovered, start feeding with a general-purpose citrus fertiliser.
  • Repeat this wetting and feeding routine in November each year to prevent stress, support healthy growth, and ensure a strong fruiting season.
